Quality egg production

We define our quality as when our products create added-value for our customers.

Calcium gives good, strong egg shells – a guarantee of fewer broken eggs and transportation damage – and thus better earnings because of less waste.

Mussel shells produce calcium throughout the period hens are producing the egg. It is an indispensable mineral for poultry.

Calcium from mussel shells has the benefit of taking to break down (unlike chalk and lime that are broken down by water), ensuring hens get the most out of the lime they consume.

Egg walls become thicker thanks to the calcium from mussel shells, minimising production waste and improving the bottom line.

And as a bonus, the shells help the hens to digest their feed in their gizzards, helping them process it faster.

A long way from chicken to consumer

Eggs have to go through a long journey. They start out being laid by the chicken, packed on-site by the farmer, taken for repacking in egg boxes and then on to the supermarket. During this long and hazardous journey, they are constantly exposed to knocks and external influences.

Sales Manager Svend Erik Olesen – Hedegaard Agro says:
“I sell products in the form of mussel shells for egg production in Denmark. Shells are needed for chickens when laying eggs. They need calcium for the walls of their own eggs – 50-60 grams per day, of which half can be supplied by mussel shells. Chickens need crushed mussel shells every day.”
